“The Good Example” and “The Sword of Damocles” are very much known to us. They teach us a different lesson of life. 

The sequential events present in the story “The Good Example” teach us many lessons. The setting of the story is in a Mexican village and the time was the 1800 century. After learning this essay, it gives me a clear vision of the ancient education system and also inspire me to explore the world to gain a lot of knowledge. The story focuses on the idea of the negative impact of the rote knowledge system. Rote knowledge is just monotonous that does not make anyone creative at all. This learning is parrot learning. It also might be trying to say that everyone likes to have better learning and happiness in the natural environment. Restriction and controlled environment learning never become creative. It also raises an issue that “Every bird can be happy in its nest or its flock not in a closed cage”. It is education that makes one conscious, free from any restriction. Here parrot has escaped away from the cage and opened a school in a Mexican village but in the free and natural environment of learning.

 This story also teaches me a lot of the things in my life. I will surely follow the path of a parrot who ran out from donlucas in search of freedom and explore the new environment. It teaches me not to limit myself to the syllabus of my university. I travel places, meet different people, with different ways of viewing the world for self-learning. So, we shouldn’t be limited with our course or syllabus besides this we should perform different works that give or uplift our knowledge and experience. Being limited, make us unknown about a lot of things happening in the world. It also teaches a new generation to leave the rote knowledge system and adopt a thing that makes us creative at all.

 Similarly “The sword of Damocles” also teaches us a different lesson of life. In this story, the arrangement sequence of events develops a concrete idea that power is not the ultimate way to happiness. In this story kings make Damocles realizes these things. After king makes Damocles one day king, he realizes that besides having a quality life of king. king is surrounded by a lot of dangerous situations. The key point to be happy is self-satisfaction rather than becoming sad by looking at other’s achievements. This story also tells us that a powerful person who has great power is surrounded by a lot of responsibility and danger. Their life is not as easy as we think. There is a constant fear of death to the king or and powerful person. And also it realizes us that it is not easy to become a powerful person. One has to pass through a continuous struggle to attain their power but we common people only think about their luxurious life, not a struggle through which they had passed through to get in that position. 

The story shows how a powerful person makes mistakes and irresponsible decisions. However, the king wants to teach Damocles that becoming a king is not an easy task but handing a kingdom to others just to make them realize is I think is the most stupid decision.

In conclusion, I want to say that power and wealth are not the ultimate way to become happy. self-satisfaction makes a man happy in their life. And also we should explore nature to gain a lot of knowledge because there exists much knowledge in nature that can make us feel happy.
